What We Do

The association organises many events throughout the year. We celebrate many traditional British customs and one-off events such as the recent Royal Weddings, Bonfire night, pub quizzes, Remembrance Day, patron saints days, Christmas carolling, picnics as well as cultural tours and monthly social evenings.

The Association is sensitive to British issues and participates in events that recognise the importance that Britain has, and continues to play in the world. It also acts as a bridge between official institutions and the British community resident in Italy.

The Association supports different local English speaking charities and many events provide an opportunity to fundraise for these charities.

Some of our events are also open to non members . The Association in turn participates in events organised by other English speaking Rome-based associations, giving our members the chance to meet and socialise with people outside of our Association

Some recent events include:

Afternoon Tea at Babingstons

Ardeatine Caves

Jungian Seminar

Wine tasting in Frascati

Christmas Lunch

Networking/Social Aperitif
The Association organises a regular social event where members get together for an aperitif. This event takes place at different wine bar locations across Rome, giving our members the opportunity to discover new places to eat and drink. It’s a great way for new members and new ex-pats to network and meet new friends.

Pub Quiz and Trivia Evenings
Miss the fun of getting involved in your local pub quiz? Join a team of fellow ex-pats for what is guaranteed to be a great evening. The Association regularly organises pub quizzes and trivia evenings, covering anything from current British topics and themes to general knowledge and more. Generally hosted in traditional British pubs around Rome, our quizmaster has teams eagerly competing for the number one spot!

Better than Therapy Book Club
The Association has a vibrant book club which meets monthly, usually the last Thursday of the month at 4pm. Each meeting is hosted by one of the attendees. Books that are read and discussed range from classic novels to contemporary writers. and also include foreign authors in translation.

Cultural Events
We organise regular cultural events in Rome and the surroundings with a guided tour in English conducted by a university professor. Our most recent tours have included the park of the”Acquedotti” in the Appia neighbourhood, a tour of the Ostia Antica Archeology Park and the Jewish Ghetto neighbourhood in Rome.

Picnics in the park
Every year the Union Jack is raised and a potluck picnic in Villa Borghese is organised for members, their family and friends. Traditional British picnic fare, [where possible], is placed on a huge tablecloth and shared with all participants. Admittedly a not very British traditional glass of wine is occasionally consumed in recognition of our adopted homeland!
